Army Family Team Building (AFTB)

is a Family training and readiness program that provides participants with an understanding of Army culture and the skills and resources you need to become a self-reliant, self-sufficient member of the military community.
AFTB teaches Soldiers that the more informed their spouses are about the military, the better their chances for a successful career. Soldiers confident in the self-reliance of their Families are more ready to fulfill their tactical mission.  Standardized, sequential AFTB training provides Family members with the information, knowledge and skills to gain that self-reliance.
Your Joint Base Lewis-McChord AFTB is an all-volunteer led organization, designed and developed by the very people it is intended to serve.  
The types of positions held by our Joint Base Lewis-McChord AFTB volunteer staff include office staff, support staff, briefers and instructors. We have positions open that will fit most schedules, and all training is provided. Our volunteer program includes a Volunteer of the Month and a Volunteer Team of the Quarter award. Small incentives, such as pins, pens and mugs are given for specific numbers of hours volunteered. Bonus Bucks are symbolic points earned by volunteers for teaching, briefing, mentoring and performing office duties. AFTB volunteers are also recognized by the I CORPS Commander at a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner every year.
Our volunteers are kept informed of all the happenings at AFTB through a monthly newsletter. AFTB volunteers meet for a fun activity once a month such as bowling, skating, dinner, pumpkin patch & corn maze, cleaning toys at Santa's Castle, and holiday meals.
The AFTB program offers many opportunities that include:

1. Free monthly scheduled classes,
2. great life skills training,
3. opportunity to make new friends,
4. networking opportunities,
5. Funded on-site childcare,
6. off-site unit classes, classes offered in English, Spanish, and Korean
7. and, of course, the opportunity for fun! 

AFTB training is organized into three levels and is taught through interactive classes:

1. Level I Basic
2. Level II
3. Level III

Instructor training prepares Family members, Soldiers and civilians to become an effective AFTB instructor. No prior teaching experience is necessary — AFTB instructor training will give you all the basic skills you need to be an AFTB instructor. Instructor training classes include the Planning Process, Speaking on Your Feet, Methods of Instruction, and Instructional Aids.
