Child Development Services

Child Development Centers (CDCs)Baby

The Child Development Centers offer full-day, part-day, and hourly care programs for children 6 weeks through 5 years of age. CYSS programs ensure the same quality of care for children in all programs. A developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children is planned by the teachers with attention to the different needs, interests, and developmental levels of those individual children.

The Joint Base Lewis-McChord CDCs are accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, which is a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NAEYC is a civilian, membership-supported organization committed to fostering the growth and development of children from birth through eight years of age. Early childhood programs accredited by NAEYC have voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self study, invited external professional review to verify compliance with the Criteria for High Quality Early Childhood Programs.

All CDCs offer trained teachers, balanced meals, and age-appropriate, developmental educational activities.

Full Day. The Child Development Center offers full daycare for children whose parents are either working full-time or attending school full-time. Our developmentally appropriate curriculum and low caregiver to child ratios ensure asupportive, comfortable and accepting atmosphere for every child. Learning activities support the natural development of the child and include individual, small group and large group activities. Our full service kitchen provides breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. The daily schedule gives children the opportunities to choose their own activities and to be part of adult-directed activities as well. The Request for Careage appropriate playgrounds that surround the building make outdoor play a year-round activity.

Part-Day Preschool. Part-day preschool for children 3 to 5 years of ages isoffered in morning and afternoon sessions; 2-day, 3-day and 5-day enrollment options are available. The part-day preschool program implements Creative Curriculum which is a pre-curser to the Strong Beginnings program. The Creative Curriculum learning goals and objectives for preschoolers are developed into exciting activities that teach a variety of social , emotional, intellectual, physical and literacy skills.

Strong Beginnings. Strong Beginnings Pre-Kindergarten program meets 5 days each week in morning or afternoon sessions and is designed to ensure that all children who enter kindergarten are prepared to succeed. Early care and education programs serving children under 5 years of age have begun to develop and implement standardized Early Learning Standards that define what preschool children should know and be able to do before entering kindergarten. The standards guide CYSS teachers in planning meaningful early experiences that prepare children for classes in school and lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

*Part-day preschool and Strong Beginnings follow the Clover Park School District (CPSD) school calendar. If CPSD is not in session, there are no classes for these programs.

A $4.00 fee will be assessed if the reservation is not cancelled at least two hours before the reserved time.

Hourly care rates are $4.00 per hour. Payment is due when you pick up your child. A special hourly care rate has been established for Families in Category I. To qualify for the lower Category I fee, you must provide a current LES(s) to verify income. Please talk with a CYSS operations clerk for further information on required paperwork.
